Mitbestimmung und Teilnahme bedeutet aber nicht nur, seine Stimme bei Wahlen abzugeben. Demokratie ist viel mehr als das, nämlich die aktive Mitgestaltung aller Lebensbereiche, die einen Menschen betreffen oder interessieren. So wird Selbstbestimmung in der Demokratie zur Mitbestimmung. Demokratie beruht auf Teilnahme und lebt vom Mitreden, Mitmachen, Mitgestalten, Mitentscheiden und Mitverantworten.	Co-determination and participation is not limited to casting one’s vote during elections. There is much more to democracy than that, namely active contribution to shaping all areas of life people are involved in or in which they are interested. Thus self-determination evolves into co-determination in a democracy. Democracy is based on participation, on people’s contributions, their active involvement, on co-shaping, co-decision-making and shared responsibility.
